Dear Parents,
In 2010, Senate Bill, 1381 was signed into law changing California’s entry age for kindergarten and first grade. The Bill requires that students turn five years of age (Kindergarten) and six years of age (first grade) by September 1. For the younger five year olds turning five between September 2 and December 2, the Bill also creates a Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program to build a bridge between early learning and kindergarten. Transitional Kindergarten is defined as the “first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate.” In 2020-21, children who turn five on and between September 2 and December 2 will be eligible to enroll in the TK Program. TK Programs will be offered at the regional school sites listed below. This is a voluntary program that is of no cost to parents. Transportation to and from the TK sites will be the responsibility of the parents. After their TK year, students will return to their school of residence for traditional kindergarten and elementary grades.
If you are interested in enrolling your child in the TK Program for the 2020-21 school year, please complete the information below and submit. Priority registration is between February 13, 2020 and March 13, 2020. Applications will be accepted beginning February 13 , 2020 at 8:00AM. Site availability is determined on a first come, first served basis. Please monitor the District website
